Police yesterday arrested four members of Islamist outfit Hizbut Tawhid at Banaripara upazila headquarters while they were distributing leaflets and books on Jihad.
The arrestees are Motaleb Hawlader, 60, son of late Tafinuddin, Abul Hossain Sikder, 32, son of Awal Sikder, Masud Ahmed, 28, son of Hassan Ali, and Abu Hassan Hawlader, 29, son of late Abdul Haq. They all hail from Uzirpur upazila.
Locals said the four, introducing themselves as members of Hizbut Tawhid, were distributing leaflets and some books on Jihad at Banaripara Bandar (river port), only 100 yards off Banaripara Police Station.
On information, police went to the spot, arrested the militants and recovered nine leaflets and eight books on Jihad authored by chief of the organisation Bayezid Khan Panni.
The arrested militants were produced in the court, which sent them to jail.
Police said Abu Hassan Hawlader, one of the four arrestees, was arrested after the August 17 serial blasts last year and later released on bail.
