Download PDF The Election Commission (EC) yesterday extended the display time of the updated voter list for public inspection up to September 5, as it failed to ensure displaying of the list in all areas within the three-day timeframe that ended yesterday.
“The time limit has been extended for public interest,” the EC Secretariat said in a press release. The EC secretary, however, refused to make any comments regarding the time extension and progress of the ongoing task.
The EC also urged people to examine the updated electoral roll and lodge objections if they find any inconsistency, but it did not decide on taking any step to probe into the allegations of unusual rise in the number of voters with under-age people registering names.
The EC officials, however, said the district election officers will look into the matter if necessary.
Some field level election officials in the capital said they feared that some genuine voters’ names might be deleted from the existing list due to the hurried move for completing the task of compiling the information collected in applications.
The updated voter list is yet to be kept open for public inspection at local election offices and city corporation ward offices in most of the areas in the capital.
The field level task for updating the existing voter roll by visiting door to door began on July 21 and ended on August 20, with many eligible voters remaining out of the list. By this time, a total of 1.63 crore people have applied for inclusion of their names while 23.74 lakh people applied for deletion of names from the list.
The EC has not taken any measures to check the authenticity of the applications received by the field-level EC staffs while visiting door to door.

Dear Sir,
I am residing the House No. L-3, Mohan Garden Uttam Nagar, New Delhi -59.
We have filled record of enumeration form holding the no. ACno.27;PS No.68 dated 15-12-07.
We have not get any information that our names are intered in voter list or not.
please let me know the latest position.
