Download PDF Indian Border Security Force (BSF) gunned down a Bangladeshi farmer near Khatiamari border under Roumari upazila of the district yesterday morning.
The victim was identified as Moniruzzaman, 32, son of Shirajul Islam of the frontier Khatiamari village.
According to Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) and local sources, the Indian border guards of Kuchnimari camp opened fire on Moniruzzaman while he was working on his cropland near the border at around 6:00am. He died instantly.
The BSF men then took the body to their camp.
On receiving the news, the BDR personnel of Baliamari border outpost rushed to the spot and sent a letter to the BSF, demanding return of the body. The BSF did not respond until filing of this report as of 6:00pm yesterday.
When contacted, commanding officer of 39 Rifles Battalion told this correspondent that the BSF would hand over the body through a flag meeting.
