Awami League (AL) General Secretary Abdul Jalil yesterday said standoff on electoral reforms will be resolved through the ongoing dialogue, saying political leaders here never failed to solve any problem in the past.
“It is possible to solve this crisis through continuous dialogue and we are hopeful about a positive outcome,” he told reporters at Prof Yunus’ residence where he along with 14-party leaders went to congratulate him on wining the Nobel Peace Prize.
Jalil said, “BNP Secretary General Mannan Bhuiyan and I are sincerely trying to reach a peaceful solution.”
He said the wining of Nobel Peace Prize has given people a real hope and “in this atmosphere, we will be able to solve existing problems.”
Jalil hoped that people would move forward taking inspiration from the winning of Nobel Peace Prize by Prof Yunus.
Referring to Yunus’ reported remark that present problems concerning elections could be solved at a single sitting, Jalil said excepting magic, it is not possible to resolve any crisis through a single sitting.
Prof Yunus said the country might step in confrontation if the on-going dialogue is delayed in solving the problem. “The delay in finding a solution has created fear and tension among the people,” he observed.
Expressing his optimism to solve the political standoff, Prof Yunus said smart and intelligent people always are able to solve any problem.
Fourteen-party leaders Tofail Ahmed, Motia Chowdhury, Rashed Khan Menon, Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, Pankoj Bhattacharya, Nurul Islam, Dilip Barua, Asit Baran Roy and Dr Dipu Moni were on the delegation.
