Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) traded bullets for an hour across Samanta frontier of Mohespur upazila in Jhenidah yesterday after BSF killed a Bangladeshi farmer.
Meanwhile, around 400 people of the village Katchuarputa have left their homes fearing further escalation of the gun battle.
Sources said Khabir Uddin, 40, and his son Suman, 10, of village Katchuarputa were mowing their field around 10:00am when the BSF shot Khabir killing him on the spot.
An hour later, BDR reached the spot and took position near the border when the exchange of fire began. The BDR claimed they fired at least 200 shots while the BSF fired 500. The BDR also claimed to have injured at least two BSF men.
Sources in the BDR said they are going to have a flag meeting with the BSF today at 4:00pm to ease the mounting tension.
