The immediate past BNP-led four-party alliance government sacked 713 officers and did not promote 2,166 others in civil and police administration, but it awarded promotion to 1,586 officers on political grounds and appointed 266 on contract basis.

The Awami League disclosed a list of such officials yesterday at a press conference at the party’s Dhanmondi office in the capital.

The AL claimed that the alliance government appointed 300 upazila election officers, 184 upazila education officers, 217 assistant education officers, 472 upazila land officers, 5,738 primary school headmasters, 58,588 assistant teachers, 499 assistant superintendents of police (ASP), 2,071 sub-inspectors (SI), and 24,270 police constables to influence the next election.

Besides, the previous government appointed 17 people at different constitutional posts–four in Election Commission, 10 in Public Service Commission, and three in Anti-Corruption Commission, the list noted.

They cancelled the appointments of 22 judges from the High Court Division and appointed 27 there. They also appointed two judges in the Appellate Division considering their political identity, it said.

According to the list, the alliance government sacked one secretary, six additional secretaries, 34 joint secretaries, and seven deputy secretaries as they were considered against it. They hindered promotion of 125 secretaries, 219 additional secretaries, 515 joint secretaries, and 908 deputy secretaries from the civil administration for the same reason, the AL said.

In the police administration, the four-party alliance government sacked 665 police officers–seven additional inspectors general (additional IG), 19 deputy inspectors general (DIG), four additional deputy inspectors general (additional DIG), 39 superintendents of police (SP), 148 inspectors, and 448 SIs.

The alliance government did not promote two inspectors general of police (IGP), one additional IGP, eight DIGs, 12 additional DIGs, 16 SPs, 36 additional SPs and 324 inspectors considering their political tilt.

But at the same time, it promoted three IGPs, six additional IGPs, seven DIGs, seven additional DIGs, 33 SPs and 10 additional SPs, who, according to the AL, were not worthy of the reward.

The alliance government appointed three IGPs, four additional IGPs, one DIG, one SP and one ASP on contract basis.

In the civil administration, they promoted a total of 1,520 officials of different ranks considering their political association; among them are 70 secretaries, 200 additional secretaries, 450 joint secretaries, and 800 deputy secretaries.

The alliance government also appointed 21 secretaries, three additional secretaries, and one joint secretary.

They appointed their men and a few government officials at different 231 key positions, the AL said.

The alliance government appointed 33 people in the posts of secretary, additional secretary and ambassador in the foreign secretariat.

AL leader Abul Mal Abdul Muhith, HT Imam, Faruk Chowdhury, M Mokammel Haque, Asaduzzaman Noor, and Nuh Alam Lenin were present at the press conference.
