Seeking action against ‘anarchists’, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia yesterday said people again came to know who patronised ‘terrorism’ during October 27-28 across the country and which quarter is again threatening fresh bloodshed.
She demanded the caretaker government to find out and bring the killers and their masterminds, who were behind the carnage staged around the time of her government’s transfer of power to the interim caretaker government, to justice.
The BNP chairperson made the remark and the demands when a number of family members of those allegedly slain by Awami League (AL) activists on October 28 met her at the BNP central office at Naya Paltan.
Expressing sympathy and praying for the departed souls, Khaleda called for turning the grief into strength and urged all to work together “to protect the country, democracy and Islamic values.”
She said she had no word to condemn the barbaric attacks and incidents. “Humans cannot attack and kill men in such a way,” she added
She observed that the BNP and the alliance do not want any confrontation and always avoid confrontation. “But the party (AL) brutally swooped on innocent party activists without provocation.”
She said the culprits would be put on trial if BNP and its alliance returned to power with a fresh mandate in the upcoming general elections.
Briefing newsmen, BNP Secretary General Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan said there was a BNP programme in front of its central office at Naya Paltan on October 28 while that of Jamaat-e-Islami on the northern side of Baitul Mokarram Mosque.
“Awami League terrorists without any provocation attacked and brutally killed Jamaat activists by bludgeoning,” he said.
On that day, 13 leaders and workers of Jamaat were killed in Dhaka while nine BNP activists were killed in various parts of the country, he claimed.
Jamaat Secretary General Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujahid, City BNP President and Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka, Delwar Hossain Saidee, and JCD and Chhatra Shibir presidents were also present there.
