The council of advisers to the caretaker government (CG) last evening discussed how to make the election commission (EC) acceptable but failed to reach a conclusion.
The discussion took place at an emergency meeting of the council in the office of the president, Bangabhaban, with Chief Adviser (CA) Iajuddin Ahmed in the chair where all advisers were present.
The council talked in detail about the EC for a long time and discussed all alternative proposals, which came from the advisers, for making the EC acceptable to all, said sources.
Adviser Hasan Mashhud Chowdhury told The Daily Star last night that the advisers discussed possible options on the EC issue, but he did not disclose the options.
“Although we did not come to any conclusion last night, I hope there will be a result in one or two days,” he said.
He, however, refused to make any comment on the government’s decision to deploy the armed forces across the country for maintaining law and order.
Meanwhile, sources said the council did not talk about the deployment of the armed forces, which happened to be yesterday’s most talked about issue in the country.
The meeting of the council will resume again today at the office of the CA at 11:00am. Sources said the EC issue will get priority amid several other agendas of the meeting.
