The caretaker government yesterday withdrew 18 deputy commissioners (DCs), appointed 33 new DCs and transferred 57 upazila nirbahi officers (UNOs) as part of its ongoing move to reshuffle in the administration.
In another move, Khulna Divisional Commissioner Mahfuzul Haque was withdrawn and brought to the establishment ministry, being replaced by Trading Corporation of Bangladesh Chairman Kabir M Ashraf.
The Superior Selection Board (SSB) meanwhile sits today with the cabinet secretary in the chair to settle promotions and postings of the government employees who were deprived during the rule of the immediate past BNP-led four-party coalition government.
A large number of government officials and employees deprived of promotion and posting staged a sit-in inside the office of Establishment Secretary AFM Soaliman Chowdhury on Thursday.
Following the agitation, the Cabinet Division decided that the SSB will sit Sunday afternoon to promote qualifying officers.
Yesterday’s reshuffle and new appointments came following Friday’s decision of the Advisory Council for Administrative Affairs to initiate a mass transfer of field-level officials for creating a congenial atmosphere for the upcoming general elections.
Those who were withdrawn and attached to the establishment ministry are the DCs of Madaripur, Jessore, Barisal, Comilla, Feni, Khulna, Naogaon, Rangpur, Sylhet, Dhaka, Sirajganj, Panchagarh, Lalmonirhat, Gazipur, Gaibandha, Patuakhali, Netrakona and Narsingdi.
The DCs of Joypurhat, Kurigram, Jamalpur, Thakurgaon, Chandpur, Laxmipur, Magura, Rajbari and Dinajpur were transferred to other districts.

Meanwhile, the government cancelled the OSD orders for DC/DM of Joypurhat Md Mohibul Hossain and DC/DM of Magura Md Neamatullah Bhuiyan.
The appointments of agricultural ministry Deputy Secretary Md Ziaul Haq as DC/DM of Sherpur and Bangladesh Biman General Manager Mushfiq Ahmed Shamim as DC/DM of Bagerhat were also cancelled.
As part of reshuffle in the field-level administration, the government on November 11 withdrew 14 DCs and made them officers-on-special-duty (OSD) at the establishment ministry. It also appointed 23 deputy secretaries of the BCS (admin) cadre as DCs.
On November 14, the government transferred 58 UNOs.
