Jubo Sangram Parishad, youth wing of 14-party alliance and like-minded parties, yesterday demanded revision of the election schedule and firing of those government officials who were involved in ‘Uttara Conspiracy’.
At a rally during the sit-in programme in front of the Secretariat in the city, they also urged the advisers to depoliticise the administration to ensure an environment for free and fair election.

Following the rally, a representative team of Jubo Sangram submitted a memorandum to the advisers.

Hundreds of riot police and paramilitary BDR were deployed around the Secretariat to ward off any violence. Police have beefed up security around the Secretariat building since the morning. They put barricade at the High Court, Matsya Bhaban, Purano Paltan and Zero Point areas to intercept the protestors.

Police also did not allow any vehicle to ply on the streets around the Secretariat. However, no untoward situation occurred during the programme.

Due to police’s barricade, the whole Dhaka city came to a stand still during the sit-in programme and normal life was hampered severely.

The pro-Awami League (AL) youth workers also asked President Iajuddin Ahmed to quit the office of chief adviser for his alleged partisan role.

AL Joint Secretary Obaidul Kader, Awami Jubo League Chairman Jahangir Kabir Nanok and General Secretary Mirza Azam addressed the demonstrators asking them to carry on their current movement for free and credible elections.

At the rally, Kader urged the president/chief adviser to play a neutral role.
