CJ’s unique stay order before ruling sparks violence

Advisers hit back, say they talk to press for free polls

The Awami League (AL)-led 14-pary alliance yesterday strongly protested and condemned the incident of vandalism at the High Court, saying that it has tainted the rule of law, liberty of judiciary and dignity of the highest court. Foreign aid shrinks 53pc in 3 months

Foreign aid dropped by a staggering 53 percent in the first three months of the current fiscal year due to donor concern over pre-election political instability and slow implementation of foreign-funded development projects.Bangladesh Bank statistics show that during July-September in the current fiscal year, aid inflow was $ 129.26 million as against $273.84 million during the corresponding period in the previous fiscal year.Aid figures dropped every month from July to September this fiscal year compared to those in the corresponding months of last fiscal year.In July this year, aid inflow was $41 million, showing a sharp fall from $87 million ... EC now waits for political consensus

The Election Commission (EC) now expects a political consensus on the election schedule it declared on Monday dashing the hope for a peaceful resolution of the dispute. BNP Secretary General Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan yesterday strongly condemned the attack and vandalism committed by lawyers loyal to 14-party alliance on High Court (HC) premises, saying such unprecedented acts tarnished the country's image throughout the world.
