Charges pressed against top lawyers for SC vandalism

Investigators of the November 30 vandalism on the Supreme Court (SC) premises yesterday pressed charges against 13 people including eminent jurists Dr Kamal Hossain, Barrister Rokanuddin Mahmud and Barrister Amir-Ul-Islam.Though the complainant of the case accused them of sedition, no such charge was brought in the charge sheet as the investigation officer (IO) found no evidence of sedition.The other accused in the charge sheet are former Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) secretary Advocate Enayetur Rahim, former SCBA vice president Advocate Subrata Chowdhury, Barrister Tania Amir and advocates Sheikh Awsafur Rahman, Subrata Saha, Khairuzzaman Tipu, Khasruzzaman, Mamun Mahbub and Suhrawardy and ... Grand alliance almost finalises seat sharing

Awami League (AL)-led grand electoral alliance almost completed its preparations for contesting the upcoming election whenever it happens, according to alliance sources. 3 outlaws killed in ‘crossfire’

Army men arrest BNP leader, Jubo League activist in Kurigram

Army men along with the police arrested a Jubo League activist and a BNP leader at their houses in Kurigram town on Thursday night. The country cannot develop without reforms in its land policy, speakers said yesterday at the National Seminar 2006.The recent trends of "development" have actually taken the country towards a dual-economy. Guantanamo returnee on one-month detention

The home ministry yesterday gave a one-month detention on Mobarak Hossain, who returned from Guantanamo Bay prison on December 17, for his involvement in anti-state activities.Metropolitan Magistrate Abdur Rouf Khan ordered to send him to Dhaka Central Jail saying that his bail was not granted as the home ministry has recommended a one-month detention order for his anti-state activities.A special US Air Force plane on December 17 flew Mobarak Hossain, 30, son of Abul Hashem of Brahmanbaria in Bangladesh and handed him over to the Zia International Airport Immigration.Mobarak, who was detained at Guantanamo Bay for five years for his ... Rab informant who helped arrest Bangla Bhai killed

An informant of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and police, whose tip-off led to the arrest of JMB Second-in-Command Siddiqul Islam alias Bangla Bhai, was slaughtered by unidentified assailants at village Binnakuri in Muktagachha upazila on Thursday night.Police and locals said the informer, Anwar Hossain, son of Yead Ali of the village, came under attack while he was returning home from his medicine shop at Binnakuri Bazar at around 10:30pm.On information, police and a team of Rab-9 went to the spot yesterday morning, recovered the body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) morgue for autopsy.Police arrested a man ...
