Four labourers died and 10 others were injured in a road accident on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Sarail upazila of the district yesterday.

Two of the dead were identified as Chand Mia, 45, and his brother Dhan Mia, 40, of Sreenagar upazila under Minshiganj district. Identity of the remaining two could not be known.

Police and witnesses said the accident occurred at about 4:00pm when a Sylhet-bound truck from Dhaka with 20 labourers aboard skidded off the highway and fell into a ditch at Kuttapara, killing the four on the spot and injuring 10 others.

Survivors said the trucker lost control over the steering as he was overtaking a bus.

Police recovered the bodies and sent them to Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital for autopsy. The injured are undergoing treatment at the hospital.
