Indian Border Security Force (BSF) shot dead four Bangladeshi cattle traders at Keragachi border under Kalaroa upazila early yesterday.
Two of the victims were identified as Rezaul Islam of Kushkhali village and Shahidul Islam of Baksha village under Kalaroa upazila, while the rest remained unidentified, reports our Satkhira correspondent.
Sources said the BSF of Tarali camp opened fire on the traders as they reached near the border at around 2:00am. The victims died instantly. The BSF personnel dragged their bodies into Indian territory.
Meanwhile, BSF and Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) exchanged fire on the borders of Ghona and Boikari from 2:00am to 5:00am yesterday, reports UNB.
BSF fired 22 shots at BDR on the Ghona border and BDR retaliated with 17.
At Boikari, BSF fired seven shots at BDR prompting the latter to retaliate with 10 shots.
The 41 Rifles battalion Vice-captain Maj Kamrul Hasan confirmed the incident.
The BDR officially protested the incident and demanded the BSF return the bodies immediately.
At least 50 Bangladeshis were killed in BSF firings on the Satkhira border in the last three months.
