BNP yesterday celebrated the 71st birth anniversary of its founder late president Ziaur Rahman.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia along with leaders and workers of the party and its front organisations placed floral wreaths at the mazar of Ziaur Rahman at Zia Udyan at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital and offered fateha at around 11:00am.
A milad and doa mahfil was held seeking salvation of the departed soul of Ziaur Rahman and peace, progress and prosperity of Bangladesh.
Hundreds of leaders, activists and workers of BNP gathered on the mazar premises to pay respect to the late president. Different socio-political organisations also arranged programmes to mark the day.
Ziaur Rahman was born on January19, 1936 at Bagbari in Bogra.
BNP arranges a discussion meeting and milad at the Institution of Diploma Engineers building at 3:00pm today as the party has chalked out two-day programmes to celebrate the day.
Party Chairperson Khaleda Zia will attend the programme.
Party Secretary General Abdul Mannan Bhuiyan in a statement yesterday urged the BNP and its front organisations to take part in the programme.
