A Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal leader, who was in Rapid Action Battalion’s (Rab) custody, allegedly died of a cardiac arrest minutes after Rab-11 personnel rushed him to Savar Health Complex Thursday night.
The dead was identified as Yaar Hossain, 25, son of late Abdul Gani of Tetail under Dhamrai Police Station in Dhaka. He was the vice-president of Jubo Dal’s Balia union unit.
Rab-11 sources said Yaar was arrested around 11:00am Thursday at his village. Rab personnel also recovered a foreign-made firearm at his house.
Following Yaar’s confessional statement, Rab personnel along with Yaar were going to Dhanmondi in Dhaka to recover two hidden firearms, Rab sources claimed. Yaar became sick on the way and was rushed to Savar Health Complex where he died, they added.
On-duty officer at Savar Police Station Helena Parvin told The Daily Star that M Tanvir Hossain, medical officer of Savar Health Complex, filed an unnatural death (UD) case. In the UD case, Tanvir said Yaar Hossain was taken to the health complex around 7:00pm Thursday and he died there 10 minutes after he was admitted. He claimed Yaar died of a cardiac arrest.
The body was taken to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy, sources in Savar Police Station said.
A Rab-11 officer requesting anonymity told The Daily Star that Yaar Hossain was a daring criminal even though there were no cases filed against him.
However, Yaar’s family members said on Friday evening they were yet to have confirmation of Yaar’s death from the law enforcers.
