The council of advisers yesterday approved the amended Emergency Powers Ordinance 2007 and the Law and Order Disrupting Crime Speedy Trial (amendment) Act 2002.
The approval was given in a regular meeting of the council of advisers with Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed in the chair.
The meeting also endorsed in principle the Anti-Corruption Commission Ordinance 2007, arming the anti-graft watchdog with powers to arrest corruption suspects and formulate necessary rules for its effective functioning.
Home ministry placed the Emergency Powers (amendment) Ordinance 2007, law ministry the Law and Order Disrupting Crime Speedy Trial (Amendment) Act 2002, while the cabinet division placed the Anti-Corruption Commission Ordinance 2007 in the meeting for approval.
After stocktaking of the outcome of the 14th Saarc summit and bilateral meetings of the chief adviser with all the eight heads of sate or government of the member-countries, the council billed the summit as “very fruitful and action-oriented”.
Briefing the newsmen after the meeting, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Syed Fahim Munaim said the Saarc leaders discussed four basic issues like water, food, environment, and energy during the summit.
Advisers to the caretaker government, cabinet secretary and secretaries concerned attended the meeting held at the chief adviser’s office.
