The Anti-Corruption Commi-ssion is likely to notify soon 32 more corruption suspects to submit their wealth statements within 7 days as part of the second phase of the drive against corruption.
The commission, with the help of the army-led anti-graft task forces, has already carried out primary inquiries into their wealth and has found them owning assets disproportionate to their legitimate income, a senior commission official told New Age on Tuesday.
‘The matter will be placed at the commission meeting to be held in the next week, and after the commission approval, the 32 people will be asked to submit their wealth statements,’ said the official.
The list includes former ministers Aminul Huq and Shahjahan Siraj, former state minister Ziaul Haque Zia, the BNP’s senior joint secretary general Tarique Rahman, former commerce adviser Barkatullah Bulu, former lawmakers Abul Hashem (Partex Group chairman) and MAH Selim, Dhaka city ward commissioners Mirza Khokan and Monwar Hossain Dipjol, former prime minister Khaleda Zia’s brother Shamim Iskandar, her nephew Shahriar Islam Tuhin and secretary general of the Bangladesh Medical Association and the Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh AZM Zahid Hossain from the BNP.
From the Awami League, the list includes former state ministers Obaidul Kader (joint secretary of the party) and Syed Abul Hossain (SAHCO managing director), former lawmakers Sheikh Helaluddin and Habubur Rahman Mollah, former prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s assistant private secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, her another assistant private secretary Rabiul Muktadir, former general secretary of the Chhatra League (student wing of the party) Liakat Shiqdar and religious affairs secretary of the party Sheikh M Abdullah.

Earlier on February 18, the commission notified 50 people including former ministers and lawmakers to appear in the commission within 72 hours with statements of wealth.
The commission has already filed cases against 13 people for submitting false wealth statements, concealing their wealth and a number of cases against the people who have not submitted the wealth statement.
In none of those cases, however, the commission has so far submitted charge sheet.
As the notices were issued on the 50 people by the commission secretary in the absence of the commission, such activities of the secretary need to be ratified before submitting the charge sheet, a senior commission official told new Age on Tuesday, adding a file had already been sent to the president for ratification.
The commission is, on the other hand, scheduled to hold a meeting today with the national coordination committee of the army-led anti-graft task forces.
The meeting, to be held at the commission headquarters, will discuss a number of issues regarding the anti-graft drive, said sources in the commission.
