Foreign consultant Robert Din Bob Grace, a gas well blow-out prevention expert, arrived at the troubled Titas Gas Field’s well-3 in Brahmanbaria yesterday.
A closed-door meeting was held between Grace and officials of Bangladesh Gas Field Company Limited (BGFCL) and Bapex at the BGFCL conference room in Brahmanbaria yesterday.
Shahidul Abedin, managing director (MD) of BGFCL, Jamal Uddin, MD of Bapex, MA Baki, general manager (geologist) of Bapex, Nurul Islam, general manager (production) of Bapex and Yousuf Ali, of the well service department of Bapex, were present during the meeting.
On contact, MA Baki said they handed over all data related to Titas Gas Field well-3 to Grace. They have examined and done several operations on the third well and informed Grace all the facts, he added. Grace is now busy examining the data and reports and he will get down to work after analysing the data, Baki said.
On April 16, engineers of Bapex with the well on the verge of a blowout used a method called “bleeding the gas” where the gas is ignited to burn freely. Following this incident 15-18 million cubic feet of gas was being burnt every day.
On April 19, the engineers successfully transferred 70-80 percent of the gas from the well to the processing plant but the rest 30-20 percent was still being burnt.
The Canadian gas well blow-out prevention expert Robert Din Bob Grace was called in to get the situation under control.
