The four militants of outlawed Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), arrested in Kurigram early Thursday, were placed on a five-day remand yesterday.

They are Matin Mehdi, 46, said to be the chief of “Allaher Dal”, Biplab, 26, Anwar, 24, and Zubaer, 17.

Police produced them in the court of First Class Magistrate ASM Monirul Islam at around 3:00pm, seeking seven days’ remand. The court granted a five-day remand for the militants.

Sources said the JMB militants will be quizzed in an interrogation cell, headed by the additional police superintendent, Kurigram.

Police arrested the four militants at their rented house at Hatirpar in Kurigram town at around 2:00am on Thursday. Of the arrestees, Matin Mehdi was sentenced to death and life imprisonment in two August 17, 2005 countrywide bombing cases filed with Jhenidah and Gaibandha police stations.

The law enforcers recovered books on Jihad, a bomb-like device inside the cover of a compact disc and chemicals believed to be bomb-making materials from the possession of the arrestees.

On the statements of the arrestees, police picked up a suspected JMB militant named Dulu, 22, son of Abdul Khaleq of Nilarum area of the town from their house yesterday morning.
