Bangladesh and Myanmar are likely to sign agreements on direct road link and avoidance of double taxation during Foreign Affairs Adviser Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury’s four-day official visit to Yangon, beginning today.
In Yangon, the foreign adviser is expected to hold bilateral talks with Secretary-1 and Acting Prime Minister Lt General Thein Sein, Foreign Minister Nyan Win and other dignitaries, a foreign ministry press release said yesterday.

The two sides are expected to focus on enhancement of cross-border trade, reducing trade gap, simplification of visa procedures for Bangladeshi businessmen, cultural exchange, agro farming on contact basis, coastal trade and repatriation of the Rohingya refugees during the bilateral talks.

This is the first high-level visit to Myanmar from Bangladesh since the present caretaker government took office in January.

Communications Secretary Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman and Director General of the Foreign Ministry Ikhtiar Momin Chowdhury will accompany the foreign adviser.
