The inspector general of police (IGP) said there might be twin objectives behind yesterday’s bomb blasts, either to herald the emergence of a new Islamist outfit or to embarrass the caretaker government.
Three crude bombs were exploded at rail stations in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet in the morning, leaving one rickshaw-puller in Chittagong injured.
Talking to reporters at the police headquarters, IGP Noor Mohammad said they had no prior intelligence report on the incident.
“I don’t consider this incident as alarming or having big dimension,” he said adding that all intelligence units are now working on it.
He claimed that law and order across the country is good.
Jadid al-Qaeda Bangladesh claimed responsibility for the blasts, demanding cessation of all activities of NGOs and Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat by May 10.
