Police have pressed charges against detained former BNP lawmaker Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu in two criminal cases filed in February this year.

Meanwhile, former Awami League (AL) lawmaker Lotus Kamal was placed on a two-day remand in a case filed under the Emergency Power Ordinance 2007.

The criminal cases against Pintu were filed with Kamrangirchar and Hazaribagh police stations on February 13. The investigation officers (IO) of the two cases pressed charges against him and three others on May 6.

KAMRANGIRCHAR CASE
IO of the case Sub-Inspector (SI) Shafiqul Islam pressed charges against Pintu and three others in a theft case filed with Kamrangirchar Police Station.

On February 13, Pintu and three others raided Shahidul’s house at around 12:30am and accused him of having Pintu loyalist Faruque Member arrested with a firearm.

As Shahidul protested the allegation, the four beat him up and made off with a gold chain, a cellphone and Tk 4,700 in cash from him.

“While leaving, Pintu threatened me with death if I disclosed the incident to anyone,” Shahidul said in his complaint.

HAZARIBAGH CASE
SI Tajul Islam, IO of the case, pressed charges against Pintu on May 6 in an attempted murder case. On June 26 last year, Pintu called BNP worker Kabir out of his house and beat up ruthlessly with a hockey stick for “tarnishing” his image. The former lawmaker dumped Kabir in a nearby dustbin with fractured limbs and injuries to the head.

When Kabir was able to go to the police and wished to lodge a complaint against Pintu, Hazaribagh Police Station refused to accept the complaint.

Later, acting on a court order, the Hazaribagh police investigated the incident and found Pintu guilty.

Later this year, Pintu surrendered to the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) and sought bail, but the court rejected his bail prayer and sent him to jail.

LOTUS KAMAL ON REMAND
Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal alias Lotus Kamal, accused of graft charges, was placed on a two-day remand for interrogation.

Metropolitan Magistrate Syed Mojibul Haq passed the remand order after Gulshan police produced him before the court yesterday with a five-day remand prayer.

Joint forces arrested Kamal on February 4 from his Gulshan residence.
