Download PDF Dakkhin Khan police arrested Ashiyan City owner Nazrul Islam, his two employees and a Rab informant on Thursday night in the city on charges of getting a man arrested with a planted firearm.
A Dhaka court yesterday remanded Nazrul Islam and three others for two days after police produced them before it with a prayer for seven days’ remand for each in an arms case.
The three other arrestees are Nazrul’s bodyguard Abdur Rahman, Ashiyan City administrative officer Abdul Hannan and the Rab informant Manik.
Sub-Inspector Ali Hossain, investigation officer (IO) of the case, said Rab members caught Mujibur Rahman of Holan village under Dakkhin Khan Police Station with a home-made pistol raiding his house on June 13. The raid was conducted following information of Manik.
During interrogation, Mujibur told Rab personnel that he knew nothing about the seized firearm. Suspecting something fishy, the Rab men interrogated Manik who confessed to the elite force that he planted the firearm at Mujibur’s house at the directive of Nazrul’s bodyguard Rahman.
Later, police filed a case under the Arms Act and arrested Rahman from Dakkhin Khan area.
Following information gathered from Manik and Rahman, police came to know that Nazrul Islam and Abdul Hannan made the conspiracy against Mujibur to implicate him in a false arms case since Nazrul had previous enmity with Mujibur.
The law enforcers called Nazrul and Mannan to Dakkhin Khan Police Station over phone on Thursday night and arrested them on arrival.
However, the IO said Nazrul Islam, managing director of Ashiyan Lands Development Limited, claimed ignorance about the incident.
