The caretaker government yesterday removed 26 deputy attorney generals (DAG) and 52 assistant attorney generals (AAG) from their posts and appointed 10 new DAGs and 39 AAGs.
The removal order signed by acting secretary to the law ministry was sent through a special messenger to the attorney general yesterday afternoon.
The officials removed had been appointed by the immediate past BNP-Jamaat alliance government allegedly on political consideration or nepotism.
The BNP-led four-party alliance government appointed 37 DAGs of whom four earlier resigned from their posts.
After the removal the number of DAGs appointed by the BNP government now stands at four.
The coalition government appointed 76 AAGs and five of them were promoted yesterday as DAG. The five are Nahid Mahtab, Quamrunnesa, Nahid Yasmeen, Mubina Asaf and M Rezaul Islam.
Four of the 76 AAGs resigned earlier.
There are now 20 AAGs who got appointment during the BNP-led government’s rule.
After yesterday’s reshuffle the number of DAG and AAG now stands at 81.
Removed DAG Helaluddin Mollah told The Daily Star that he has been informed about the order and that he welcomes the decision.
The removed DAGs are M Altafur Rahman, SAM Mahbub, Elahi, Suryya Begum, Golam Mohammad Chowdhury Alal, Helaluddin Mollah, ABM Waliur Rahman Khan, M Firoz Shah, M Faisal Hossain Khan, Fazilatun Nesa, Saifuddin M Aminur Rahim Chandan, Fahima Nasreen, M Afsar Hossain, M Mukhlesur Rahman Zahid, AHM Mushfiqur Rahman Tuhin, Humayun Kabir Bulbul, Gias Uddin Mithu, Mohammad Abdul Baset, Snigdha Haque, SM Aminul Islam Shanu, SM Anamul Haque, Zaman Akhter Bulbul, Karunamoy Chakma, ASM Ramzan Khan, Mofizur Rahman Majumder, Khandoker Guljar Hossain and Nikhilesh Dutta.
