Awami League (AL) President and ex-premier Sheikh Hasina was sent to jail when a Dhaka court rejected her bail petition today after her arrest in the early hours of today.
Hasina was directly produced before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court, Dhaka at about 7:45am.
After hearing, first class magistrate Kamrunnahar rejected her bail prayer and sent her to jail in connection with an extortion case.
Hasina was taken to a sub-jail, a house allocated for deputy speaker, on Sangsad Bhaban premises at about 10:25am.
AL supporters chanted slogans when their party chief came out from the CMM court.
Azam J Chowdhury, managing director of Eastcoast Trading Private Ltd, filed the case with Gulshan Police Station on June 13 against Hasina and AL leader Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim for allegedly extorting over Tk 2.99 crore.
In a predawn raid, several hundred law enforcers had cordoned off the Sudha Sadan residence of the AL boss and arrested her at about 7:30am.

The extortion cases must be adjudicated under Islamic Law.
Sheikh Hasina must be given the HOLY QURAN in her hand & have to swear that she will tell the Truth.
If she tells untruth, ALLAH’s action will follow.
Otherwise it is easy to tell a lie.
This procedure must be followed in all extrotion cases.
