Army is ready to face any situation arising out of the current flood in cooperation with the civil administration, a senior military official said in Dhaka Friday.
Briefing reporters at the Army Headquarters monitoring cell, Lt Col Firoz Rahim, GSO Grade-1, said the army was working with the civil administration from July 23 and joined the rescue and rehabilitation of flood victims in different areas at the
instruction of the chief of the army staff.
He said monitoring cells had been set up at the army headquarters and divisional headquarters to coordinate their works relating to flood across the country.
Lt Col Rahim said excess of rainfalls and opening of dams across the frontier had caused the flood situation in different districts.
He said the floodwater had damaged the embankment on the River Gumti and also threatened flood protection dams at different places.
‘Army is already on the ground…We are ready to face any situation arising out of flood,’ he said.
Director military operations Brig Gen Humayun Bakhtiar PSC were, among others, present at the briefing.
The monitoring cells on flood are also working in the chief advisor’s office and the office of the armed forces division.
