The detained Awami League presiednt Sheikh Hasina on Friday protested her innocence saying she was confident that truth would prevail if justice was done to her in the ‘false’ case of extortion filed against her.
But the former prime minister said she still feared she would be denied justice.
‘The cases lodged against me are false, baseless and politically motivated. I doubt if I will get justice. If justice is done, I will be proved innocent,’ Advocate Anisul Huq, one of the counsels for Hasina, quoted her as saying.
Anisul Huq met the AL chief at the sub-jail on the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban complex in the afternoon.
He said Sheikh Hasina had applied to the Governor of Bangladesh Bank to inform her about the amount of money deposited in her accounts to enable her to submit her wealth statements to the Anti-corruption Commission because her bank documents were seized from Sudha Sadan when she was arrested on the morning of July 16.
Advocate Huq said the counsels for Sheikh Hasina has applied for copies of the charge sheet, vakalatnama and other papers relating to the case against the AL chief. But they are yet to get the papers.
‘We are expecting the copy of the vakalatnama and other papers on Saturday and as soon as we get the papers we will proceed for legal battle for her release,’ Huq added.
He also informed newsmen that the former prime minister had urged the people to pray for early recovery of her ailing husband Dr M Wazed Miah, who was undergoing treatment at Square Hospital in the city.
Barrister Fazle Noor Taposh, one of the counsels for Sheikh Hasina and her nephew, was present during the briefing.
Standing in front of the sub-jail, members of Motor Drivers and Workers League led by its president Ali Hossain and general secretary Alauddin Rana, prayed to Allah for early release of Sheikh Hasina.
