Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) yesterday recovered around 30,000 pistol bullets from a village under Jhenaigati upazila of Sherpur district.
Acting on secret information, a special squad of BDR led by 45 Battalion Sector Commander Colonel Anisuzzaman raided a house of an indigenous youth in Bakakura village around 4:15am.
The BDR team recovered 29,100 bullets hidden in an underground water tank in the kitchen of the house.
They arrested Russell Sangma, 25, son of Khokon Maraka. Locals said Russell is an unemployed youth.
Officer-in-Charge of Jhenaigati Police Station Md Shajahan Kabir told The Daily Star that the BDR handed over Russell and the bullets to them around 4:30pm.
A case was lodged under Arms Act while Russell was undergoing interrogation in their custody, he said.
