The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday sued former Awami League (AL) state minister Syed Abul Hossain and detained Barisal City Corporation (BCC) Mayor Majibor Rahman Sarwar and their wives for amassing wealth illegally and concealing information in wealth statements.
The anti-graft watchdog yesterday also approved filing another case against Rabiul Alam Mohammad Obaidul Muktadir Chowdhury, assistant private secretary to former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, for hiding information in the wealth statement.
ACC Assistant Director Mazhar Ali Sardar filed the case against Syed Abul Hossain and his wife Khaja Nargis Hossain under the sections of 26 (2) and 27 (1) of ACC Act and Emergency Power Rules with Ramna Police Station.
In the first information report (FIR), the complainant said that Abul Hossain concealed information about wealth worth Tk 1.6 crore in the statement submitted to the commission. In addition, investigation revealed that he has wealth worth Tk 3.14 crore beyond his known sources of income.
The complainant in the FIR also mentioned that Abul Hossain whitened Tk 19.43 crore in the names of his wife and two daughters taking opportunity of the scope provided by government earlier.
The ACC on May 29 issued a notice asking Abul Hossain to submit his wealth statement.
On June 7, Abul Hossain submitted a statement worth Tk 26.94 crore to the commission
His wife was accused in the case as she abetted her husband in concealing information about wealth earned beyond known sources of income.
CASE AGAINST BCC MAYOR
ACC deputy director of Barisal district AKM Fazlul Haque filed the case against Majibor Rahman Sarwar, his wife Syeda Nasima Sarwar, and Shamima Akter Chhobi, daughter of Abdul Khaleque Mian.
The case was filed under the sections of 26 (2) and 27 (1) of the ACC act and Emergency Power Rules with Kotwali Police Station in west Kaunia.
In the FIR, the complainant mentioned that the BCC mayor hid information on wealth worth Tk 3.86 crore in the statement submitted to the commission. Besides, he accumulated Tk 9.93 crore which is disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The mayor submitted wealth statement worth Tk 8.29 crore to the commission on July 26 through jail authorities following issuance of notice upon him on July 8.
The other two were accused in the case for abetting the BCC mayor in amassing wealth and concealing information in the wealth statement.

I doubt if Bangladesh will ever be a corrupt free country where evil people with evil minds are deep rooted. They talk about trying ANTI Bangladeshies for criminal offence. The very leaders are criminals. if Bangladesh need to try, She must try to uproot corruption from the soil of Bandladesh. There is no corrupt free country in the world but only few percent are corrupted. But All most all leaders in Bangladesh amassed wealth through Cooperative corruption.
Corruption are deep rooted in every corner of Bangladesh.You may trim some of it,But cannot uproot it.
Indian History contain the name of only one Mirzafor who had betrayed his country, but Bangladesh History will contain names of million of Mirzafor who shamed not only their political parties but also the very name of patritism!
