Nine Bangladeshi workers returned home from Malaysia yesterday just after three weeks of stay allegedly because of being medically unfit and their agent’s failure to find any job for them.
Aktaruzzaman, Masud Rana, Babul, Neogi Babul, Abdul Malek, Aftab Uddin, Sohel, Jahangir and Monir Hossain arrived at the Zia International Airport by a Thai Airways flight around 12:30pm.
They said they along with 26 others went to Malaysia on October 9 through recruiting agency Paradise International in Dhaka.
But, the experience during their stay in Malaysia is horrible as their Malaysian agent kept them confined in a room and provided food once a day.
“The Malaysian agent said five of us were medically unfit while no job could be found for the four others. We were given jobs only for three days in a gloves manufacturing factory although we were promised of jobs in an electronics factory,” said Masud Rana of Shariatpur.
The same happened to the 26 others too, he said, adding that the Malaysian agents often beat them up.
“We did not find anyone from the Paradise International in Malaysia for redress,” Masud said.
The recruiting agency in Dhaka could not be contacted.
When contacted, Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Secretary Abdul Matin told The Daily Star that he has no idea about the return of this group of workers from Malaysia.
