A Special court yesterday framed charges against detained BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury in a case for amassing wealth illegally and concealing information in his wealth statement.
Judge Shamsunnahar Begum of Fourth Special Court, set up at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, fixed November 11 for trial of the case.
Salauddin pleaded that he was not guilty. He demanded justice before the court after the charges were read out to him.
ACC Deputy Director Moniruzzaman pressed charges against former BNP lawmaker Salauddin on October 1 for concealing information about his properties worth over Tk 1.17 crore in the wealth statement submitted to the ACC on February 25.
Monir, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s (CMM) Court, showing 47 people as prosecution witnesses.
ACC Assistant Director SMM Akhter Hamid Bhuiyan filed the case with Ramna Police Station on June 13 against Salauddin for hiding information about his two cars worth over Tk 1.17 crore in the wealth statement.
EXTORTION CHARGES FRAMED AGAINST EX-MP HARUN
Meanwhile, charges were framed against former BNP lawmaker from Chapainawabganj and also general secretary of district unit of the party Harunur Rashid Harun and three others in an extortion case yesterday, reports a correspondent from Chapainawabganj.
The three accused are Syeda Ashifa Ashrafi Papya, Harun’s wife and also president of sadar upazila BNP, Ezabul Haque Buli, district Jubodal president, and Asaduzzaman, a BNP activist. Sources said they are absconding.
Mozammel Haque, a marriage registrar of Harma village of Devinagar under sadar upazila, filed the Tk 1 lakh extortion case on June 13 with Sadar Police Station.
Harun’s wife was jailed for five years in another extortion case on August 13.
