Rejecting the Election Commission (EC) decision to invite M Saifur Rahman-led BNP for electoral reforms dialogue, pro-Khaleda faction of the party last night said the EC has lost its neutrality due to its farcical attitude.

Terming the EC decision part of a “conspiracy” against BNP, they said they are preparing to go to court for a legal battle against the EC decision. They hoped they would win.

“Now, we do not believe that this commission would perform its tasks without being influenced,” Rizvi Ahmed, acting office secretary of the party, told reporters on the Birdem Hospital premises on behalf of Khaleda-appointed BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain, who is under treatment there.

Rizvi said the EC itself has breached its commitment to implement the roadmap to a free and fair election by deciding to invite Maj (retd) Hafiz Uddin to the dialogue. That is why we will fight the decision in court, he said.

“Crores of party leaders and workers across the country are united under the leadership of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and she sent messages to the commission that Khandaker Delwar Hossain is the legitimate secretary general of the party,” he said.

He said an election commissioner had said that the EC would send invitation letter to the BNP within November 7 and right afterwards the Saifur-Hafiz committee was formed, which proves that the committee is part of a conspiracy of a few evil souls and the EC. The BNP leaders and workers under Khaleda-Delwar’s leadership must win the battle, he went on to say.
