Film producers yesterday destroyed reels of obscene films on the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (FDC) premises to comply with the directives of joint forces.

The move from the film producers came after task force members held talks with filmmakers and producers and sought their cooperation to free the film industry from obscenity.

Task force members who had set up an office at FDC on Thursday asked the film producers and directors to destroy all the reels of obscene films.

Responding to their call, the film producers gathered reels of obscene films on Thursday night and set those on fire on FDC premises.

A member of the joint forces said their aim is to free the industry from video piracy and obscenity.

Taskforce members raided several studios at FDC Thursday and arrested five film workers at Bari Studio for their alleged involvement in making obscene films.

Saha Alam Kiron, general secretary of Bangladesh Film Directors Association said task force asked them to destroy the reels of obscene films and the film producers responded spontaneously.
