Hurricane Sidr swept across the country killing at least 168 people and leaving over 1000 missing as it uprooted hundreds of trees, destroyed homes and power lines across the country.

Barisal Cyclone Prepared Programme office said at least 168 people were killed and more than 1000 are still missing as of 9:30am in Barisal zone. In Barisal alone at least 41 people were killed, the office added.

Most casualties were caused by tress crushing flimsy homes made of bamboo and tin.

However, they could not report the loss of lives in Bhola and Kolapara areas, as all communications with Barisal were severed.
