An emergency meeting of the National Disaster Management Council chaired by Chief Adviser (CA) Fakhruddin Ahmed yesterday directed all concerned, particularly the deputy commissioners of 15 districts, to take all-out preparation to face possible disaster as a powerful cyclone started lashing the coastal areas.
The head of caretaker government said any lapses in government preparedness wouldn’t be tolerated.
In view of the emergency, the Chief Adviser’s Office will remain open today, weekly holiday, for monitoring the situation of the natural calamity. The CA himself will monitor the situation and other operational activities.
Leave of government officials and employees in the coastal districts has been cancelled so that they can take part in emergency operations.
The meeting was informed that adequate food and other essentials remained in stock in the 15 coastal districts. The government has already sent 6000 tents and 1000 blankets as a preliminary relief measure to the coastal areas.
The Army, Navy and Air Force assured all-out support in tackling the possible disaster.
Members of the Advisory Council, Chiefs of the three services, PSO of the Armed Forces Division and secretaries concerned attended the meeting held at the Chief Adviser’s Office in the evening.
Meanwhile, a special operations room has been opened at Armed Forces Division to face the cyclonic storm.
