Eight more bodies were recovered in Patuakhali today, raising death toll in the coastal district from Thursday’s cyclonic storm to 249.

Local control room sources said the eight bodies were recovered from Kalapara upazila till 11:00am today.

Earlier till last night, some 241 bodies were recovered from coastal areas of the district.

Of the deceased, 104 people were killed in Kalapara upazila, 132 in Galachipa and 24 in Mirzaganj uapzilas.

The eight victims could not be identified immediately.

Authorities fear the death toll could rise further as many people still remain missing in the coastal areas of the district.

Road communication between Patuakhali and other parts of the country remained suspended till this noon as many trees and electric poles were uprooted.

Besides, power supply remained cut off till this noon due to uprooted electric poles.

Water supply was also disrupted due to power outage.
