Five more bodies of fishermen, who went missing during cyclone Sidr at Dublar Char, were recovered from Sundarbans area this morning, raising the death toll to 12 in the district.

Of the victims, three hailed from Tala upazila while two others from Ashashuni upazila of the district.

Deputy Commissioner of the district Mohammad Kefayetullah told UNB that other fishermen recovered the bodies.

The fishermen went to Dublarchar near the Sundarbans for fishing and went missing during the storm on Thursday night.

Two bodies of the victims, who hailed from Ashashuni upazila, were handed over to their relatives while three others were kept at Tala Police Station till filing of this report at 11:00am.

The identities of the deceased could be ascertained immediately.

Local people fear the death toll might rise as many people remained still missing.

Sources said till last night, bodies of seven people, who were killed by the violent storm, were recovered in the district.

Meantime, the body of one Bisu Khan who was killed during the cyclone was recovered from a Tetulia River char in Borhanuddin upazila of Bhola this morning.
