Chief Adviser (CA) Fakhruddin Ahmed yesterday visited some cyclone-hit areas in Khulna and asked the authorities concerned to take urgent steps to meet the need of the people in the cyclone-hit areas.

He also ordered to take necessary steps for the burial of those killed in the storm.

The head of the caretaker government gave the directives at a meeting arranged to discuss ways to face the post-cyclone situation in the conference room of BNS Titumir naval outpost here in the afternoon.

At the meeting, the CA announced allocation of Tk 1 crore for each worst affected district in Khulna division.

Earlier, the CA along with Chief of Army Staff General Moeen U Ahmed, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal SM Ziaur Rahman and other high officials visited some cyclone-hit areas of the division. He flew here by a helicopter at around 3:50pm.

Addressing the meeting, he (CA) said the number of casualty in the storm could be minimised by the necessary steps taken earlier with the joint efforts of both government and non-government officials.

The government will solve the problems in the worst affected areas on priority basis, the CA said, adding that there are sufficient resources to face the post-cyclone situation.

He told the meeting that a control room has been opened at the Disaster Management Ministry to monitor the overall situation round-the-clock.

Speaking at the meeting, Khulna Divisional Commissioner Yunus Rahman said five districts –Bagerhat, Satkhira, Khulna, Narail and Jessore–were worst-hit by the cyclone.
