The government has ordered suspension of all activities of recruiting agency Kabir Enterprise until it can ensure jobs for 76 Bangladeshi workers whom it sent to Malaysia more than three months back.
The Ministry of Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment on November 20 served a show cause notice on the recruiting agency as to why its licence will not be cancelled since it sent those people without ensuring jobs for them. Legal actions will be taken against the agency if it fails to give proper explanation for this within seven days, the notice said.
Kabir Enterprise sent the 76 Bangladeshi workers for jobs in Malaysian company IH Technologies/TESCO/Carlsberg Beer but they are still unemployed.
“Moreover, personnel of the agency and their hired goons physically tortured the workers forcing them to take shelter at the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur,” the notice said.
According to the Emigration Ordinance, 1986, it is the responsibility of the recruiting agencies concerned to look after the workers they send abroad, it pointed out.
