Army Chief General Moeen U Ahmed yesterday said the cyclone-affected people, whatever the number, will be brought under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme beginning next month.
“I requested the chief adviser to bring all the affected people under the VGF programme for the next four months and he agreed,” the army chief said while receiving cyclone donations from various institutions and individuals for the Army Relief Fund.
He said the government had earlier decided to give VGF cards to 26 lakh affected people from December 1. The programme will continue for four months until March next year.
General Moeen received cheques for about Tk 2.20 crore and relief materials at the Army Headquarters Officers Mess. Chief of General Staff Maj Gen Sina Ibne Jamali and other senior army officers were present.
The army chief said they will provide nets, boats and construct houses for the cyclone-hit fishermen and also participate in rehabilitation programme in other sectors.
“If we could work together in a coordinated manner, no problem will arise in the relief and rehabilitation activities,” he said.
He said helipads have already been set up at all 122 cyclone-affected unions to accelerate and maintain the supply of emergency relief through helicopters.
General Moeen assured that the cash and kind will go to the genuine distressed people and for ensuring transparency the Bangladesh army has been putting the figures of the distributed materials as well as the stock of relief goods on its web site.
