The Election Commission yesterday started taking photograph and fingerprint of voters to complete the process of voters’ registration in Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) area.
President Iajuddin Ahmed and his wife Anwara Begum got their names registered with photographs at Bangabhaban Primary School Voter Registration Centre.
Dhaka City Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka, Chief Election Commissioner ATM Shamsul Huda and other officials concerned were present on the occasion.
Four district election and registration officers, 15 thana election officers and 2627 supervisors are engaged in the gigantic task of preparing the DCC voter list. There are 951 voter-registration centres in 90 wards of the corporation.
Yesterday, the technical part of DCC voter listing started in Kafrul, Airport, Uttara, Cantonment, Khilkhet, Sabujbagh, Motijheel, Paltan, Jatrabari, Shyampur, Sutrapur, Kotwali, Pallabi, Mohammadpur, Adabar, Dhanmondi, New Market, Lalbagh, Khilgaon, Ramna, Shahbagh and Tejgaon industrial areas.
It will start in Hajaribagh, Mirpur, Badda and Shah Ali areas on December 9, 11, 26 and 29 while Gulshan and Tejgaon on January 2 and 16.
According to EC plan, the task of DCC voter listing will be completed by January 31, 2008 and the month of February will be needed for correcting the list.
As per the roadmap announced by the EC on July 15, the countrywide task of preparing voter list with photos will be finalised by October next year.
