Detained former BNP lawmaker M Naser Rahman’s wife Rezina Naser was sent to jail yesterday in a case filed against her for amassing wealth through illegal means.
Meanwhile the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday pressed charges against detained former state minister for communications Salahuddin Ahmed and his wife Hasina Ahmed in connection with a graft case.
Also a Dhaka court yesterday directed authorities concerned to publish an advertisement in two national dailies asking former Awami League (AL) lawmaker Dr HBM Iqbal and four of his family members to appear before the court within the next three days.
REZINA NASER
Judge Mohammad Azizul Haque of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court sent Rezina to jail when she appeared before the court seeking bail in the case filed against her.
Earlier, the same court issued an arrest warrant against her and ordered to attach her properties. Rezina had been a fugitive since the case was filed against her.
In the case filed with Gulshan Police Station on May 27, it was alleged that Naser and his wife had concealed Tk 6.23 crore in their wealth statements submitted earlier to the ACC.
SALAHUDDIN
ACC Assistant Director Mozahar Ali, who is also IO of the case, submitted the charge sheet against Salahuddin Ahmed and his wife Hasina Ahmed to the CMM’s Court, listing 24 people as prosecution witnesses.
The IO asked for an arrest warrant to be issued against Hasina and ordered to attach her properties, as she has been absconding since the case was filed.
In the case filed with Gulshan Police Station on June 14, ACC Deputy Director Shafiqul Islam said that the Ahmed couple had concealed Tk 3,51,72,782 amassed through illegal means, which they didn’t declare in their wealth statements submitted earlier to the ACC.
HBM IQBAL
The CMM’s court yesterday issued an order directing authorities concerned to publish advertisements in two national dailies asking Dr HBM Iqbal and his family members to appear before the court.
HBM Iqbals family include his wife Dr Momtaj Begum Dolly, their sons Moinuddin Iqbal, Imran Iqbal and daughter Nawrin Iqbal.
ACC Assistant Director Mohammad Ibrahim filed the case against the couple with Gulshan Police on June 25 for amassing wealth worth Tk 11.43 crore through illegal means and for not declaring these assets in their wealth statements submitted to the ACC on February 26.
Iqbal and his family has been on the run since February.
According to the case statement, among the assets he didn’t declare were a Tk 5.3-crore house in Gulshan Avenue, registered under his wife’s name, that Iqbal is supposed to have acquired illegally, and a fixed deposit of Tk 5 crore in a bank account.
