CA’s speech hailed

Leaders of political parties and civil society members yesterday hailed the chief adviser’s speech saying that it would dispel doubt and confusion in people’s mind about the next general election.

Terming the CA’s speech ‘positive’ and ’satisfactory’ they told The Daily Star that the initiatives proposed by the CA for holding dialogues between political parties and the government would pave the way for holding a free, fair and credible election in the country.

Awami League (AL) Presidium member Suranjit Sengupta said, “Chief Adviser’s speech will help create a congenial atmosphere to initiate dialogue between the government and political parties.”

He said it would be highly appreciated if a specific date for lifting the state of emergency and holding the next election had been mentioned in the speech.

CA’s speech would dispel all doubts in people’s mind about holding the next general election, said BNP Acting Secretary General Maj (retd) Hafizuddin Ahmed.

Welcoming the CA’s pledge for holding dialogue between the government and political parties, the BNP acting secretary general said it would help resolve the present political crisis in the country.

He said it would be better if he had mentioned a specific date for lifting the state of emergency and ban on political activities.

Former adviser to the caretaker government M Hafizuddin Khan said the CA’s speech was very positive.

He also hailed the initiatives proposed by the CA for holding dialogue between the government and the political parties adding that the present crisis can be solved only through dialogue.

Welcoming the CA’s pledge, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon said it would help the government run the country smoothly.

He said dialogue between political parties and the government would create a congenial atmosphere in the country for holding a free and fair election.
