Download PDF The government yesterday decided to withdraw a case against yet unknown persons in connection with assaulting police and an army camp that had been on the DU campus at the time of the August violence on Dhaka University (DU) campus last year.
It also decided to drop the names of 18 persons from the charge sheet in another case in connection with torching of an army vehicle in the capital during the violence, according to government handouts sent to the media last night.
The government directed the authorities to submit the final report in another case in connection with the torching of the army vehicle, meaning that case is also likely to be thrown out.
A case in connection with violating the state of emergency was settled yesterday, with acquittal and pardoning of the accused.
The verdict in another case in connection with violation of EPR against the same persons will be delivered today.
A total of five cases were filed against 5,000 to 6,000 unnamed DU students and teachers in connection with the last August violence on DU campus. Later the numbers were narrowed down to 39 students and four teachers accused in five cases.
