Many of the 124 staff of Titas Gas Distribution and Transmission Ltd, who refunded their illegally-earned wealth on Tuesday, gave written undertaking to the task force yesterday saying they would never get involved in corruption in future.
The Titas employees went to the task force office at the Titas Gas building at Karwan Bazar with written undertakings. They also verbally promised to the task force members that they will not engage in any kind of corruption in future, said task force sources.
The task force is verifying the documents of the refunded properties to see if the 124 staff refunded all their illegal wealth, the sources added.
The task force has so far listed names of 49 Titas staff, who did not admit their corruption, for sending to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). Of them, names of 30 staff have already been sent to the ACC through the National Board of Revenue for filing cases against them.
More names will be included in the list, the sources said.
On February 5, the 124 staff handed over documents of their illegal wealth worth about Tk 350 crore to the task force. But 11 others who also committed to refund their illegal wealth have gone into hiding.
A high official of the task force said those 11 staff would be given more time to refund their wealth.
A total of 135 staff of Titas, including 10 officials, had admitted to their involvement in corruption and committed to refund their illegally-earned wealth.
A high official of the task force said they are also investigating if there are cases of corruption done by other staff. The task force has so far interrogated 450 Titas staff and decided to interrogate all other staff.
A number of Titas Gas staff became millionaire through corruption.
The task force investigation found that former Titas sales assistant Abdul Kadir Mollah, whose salary was only Tk 4,000 a month when he voluntarily retired, owns wealth worth about Tk 2,100 crore.
According to the task force investigation, at least 80 percent of 2,800 Titas staff accumulated crores of taka through corruption.
