Sector Commanders’ Forum (SCF), a platform of sector commanders of the liberation war, yesterday urged all to observe a one-minute ‘blackout’ from March 25 midnight to commemorate the horrific ‘black night’ of 1971.

“We urge all to observe a one-minute blackout in silence in houses, motor vehicles and launches to recall the horrific memories of the black night when mass murder and mayhem took place,” SCF President Air Vice Marshal (retd) AK Khandker, also deputy chief of the liberation war, said while speaking at a view-exchange meeting with the journalists of print media at the Retired Armed Forces Officers’ Welfare Association (Raowa) club in the capital.

The SCF leaders also asked the government to authorise them for preparing the list of war criminals if it does not wish to do so.

They also officially announced that they would hold a national convention on March 15 at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Convention Centre in the capital to press home their demand for trying the war criminals.

“This state (Bangladesh) has been tagged as a ‘failed state’ as we have failed to try the war criminals. We can get rid of this dishonour by bringing the war criminals to justice,” he said.

Maj Gen (retd) KM Shafiullah vowed to resist any electoral alliance with anti-liberation war elements including Jamaat-e-Islami.

Lt Col (retd) Abu Osman Chowdhury said they would compel the government to take initiatives for trying the war criminals.

He urged the government to form a mass probe committee to identify war criminals and try them

under the International Crimes (Tribunal) Act.

“If the government so wishes or delegates power to us, we can prepare the list of war criminals,” said war hero Abu Osman Chowdhury.

Maj Gen (retd) CR Dutta, Lt Gen (retd) Harun-ar-Rashid, Maj Gen (retd) M Mashudur Rahman, Maj Gen (retd) Jamil Din Ahsan, Dr M Sarwar Ali, Dr MA Hasan, journalist Harun Habib, M Hamid, and Anwar Kabir, among others, were present.

What a idotic unislamic & stupid suggestion by stupid men.
No doubt whole country is getting natural calamities and disasters.
You pray to ALLAH for better life. What sielence
brings unless the remeance relates to seeking
    mercy & happiness from ALLAH.
You invite ” ASO HEY BAISHAK” with colourful dress & see what Baishak brought Calamity & Disaster, If you have sought mercy of ALLAH from perils in this month,ALLAH would have saved.
Peace & happiness & prosperity comes from ALLAH the ALMIGHTY alone!
