Chief Adviser (CA) Fakhruddin Ahmed yesterday urged the people to elect honest, dedicated and active persons in the next elections for development and welfare of the country.

The CA made the call while exchanging views with upazila level officers, local elite and people belonging to different professions on Galachipa Degree College premises.

He said the government is trying to prepare a flawless voter list with photographs, which is one of the prerequisites for holding a free, fair, neutral and acceptable election.

The head of the caretaker government stayed overnight at Barisal after he chaired the Council of Advisers meeting at Barisal Circuit House on Thursday.

From Barisal, he flew into Galachipa yesterday morning and returned to the capital in the afternoon.

Earlier, on way from Barisal Circuit House to airport, the CA got down from the car at Gariarpar and talked with locals about prices of essentials, agricultural production and voter listing.

On a long-term rehabilitation project in the Sidr-hit southern coastal belt, he said work on preparing the project has started and after its implementation the region will have a new look.

The CA directed the officials concerned to do what the government can do for extending cooperation to the farmers in proper time. This will make it possible to launch an agricultural or green revolution in this region, he said.

He said there is no alternative to raising agricultural production to keep prices of commodities at tolerable level overcoming the adverse influence of prices in the international market.

Fakhruddin said the government is also trying to keep the prices of commodities at tolerable level through various measures.

The objective of the government, he said, is to increase as quickly as possible the agricultural production along with increased production of fish and milk.

He said a programme of Tk 600 crore agriculture loan has been launched under which Krishi Bank and four nationalised banks have already started disbursement of loan.

Responding to the various demands of the local people, he assured them of solving those on priority basis and informed that many demands like Kalapara-Kuakata road communication remain in the long-term rehabilitation project.

The CA, however, said the decision for operating a ferry service over Galachipa River will be taken.

Regarding setting up of fish and agricultural products processing industries in the region having immense potential, he said the government will give all necessary support to the private sector in this regard.
