Former state minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmood Tuku was yesterday released from Kashimpur jail on parole for four hours following death of his mother-in-law Mamjuda Chowdhury.
Mamjuda Chowdhury, 84, died of old age complications at LabAid Hospital in the city yesterday morning.
The joint forces arrested Tuku at his residence in the city on February 3 last year. He was later sentenced to nine years imprisonment in a corruption case.
DIG (Prisons) Major Shamsul Haider Siddiqui told the news agency that the former state minister was released on parole for four hours at 4:00pm to attend the funeral of his mother-in-law.
Tuku’s mother-in-law was buried at Azimpur graveyard after Asr prayers.
