At least seven people were killed and 24 others injured as nor’wester swept through different parts of the country yesterday and Thursday night.
Besides, crops on vast tracts of land were also damaged.
Meanwhile, deep convection is taking place over the North Bay and squally weather may affect the maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Mongla, reported news agency UNB.
Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Mongla have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal no-3 (R), said a Met office bulletin at 2:00pm yesterday.
All fishing boats and trawlers in North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
Our correspondent in Pabna reported that lightning killed three members of a family at Charpara village of Faridpur upazila on Thursday night.
The dead are Shahadat Hossain, 40, his wife Khodeza Begum, 28 and his mother-in-law Foara Khatun, 65.
A correspondent in Thakurgaon reported that a person was killed and many houses were damaged as nor’wester with hailstorm lashed different parts in Panchagarh yesterday.
Crops were also damaged at different parts in the district.
The deceased was identified as Hamidul Haque, 40.
The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) in the district said maize and wheat on vast tracts of land at Magura, Dakkamara, Gorenabari, Tunirhat, Chakala village of Sadar upazila, Mirzapur, Noyaniburuj, Fakirgonj, Roshea, Amlarhar village of Atoary upazila, Moidandighi, Boda, Chandanbari, Pahardanga village, Lakkirhat village of Debigonj upazila Bhajanpur, and Shalbahan of Tetulia upazila were damaged in the storm.
Panchgarh DAE Deputy Director ATM Jahangir said block supervisors were assessing the damage wrought by the storm.
Our correspondent in Kishoreganj reported that a woman was killed and 12 others were injured as nor’wester lashed Aganagar and Sadekpur of Bhairab upazila yesterday. Boro crops were also damaged in the storm.
Our correspondent in Satkhira reported that Nazmul Huda, 17, a madrasa student, was killed and two others were injured as lightning struck them at Kapsanda village yesterday afternoon.
Injured Rezaul Islam, 14 and Fazlur Rahman, 32 were admitted to Assassuni Upazila Health Complex in a critical condition.
A boy was killed and 10 others were injured as a house collapsed during a nor’wester in Magura Thursday night, reported UNB.
The deceased was identified as Swadhin, 8, son of Kamal Hossain of Mothi village.
The injured were admitted to different clinics and hospitals.
The district agriculture officer said the storm also damaged houses and crops including wheat, and maize on vast tracts of land in the district.
